Intent

At St Mary Bourne Primary, PSHE is at the heart of what we do and enables our children to become independent, confident, healthy and responsible members of society. Through our whole school approach to PSHE, we aim to inspire a passion for learning and excellence which will contribute to excellence in other curriculum subjects and important life skills. PSHE is taught across the school and from Year 1 –Year 6 we follow the 1decision PSHE accredited scheme. Our scheme equips children with meaningful content with an emphasis on building resilience, making positive choices and nurturing both physical and mental health. In our approach we are able to provide our children with a strong understanding of the diverse world around them and support them in becoming respectful, caring and active citizens in the future. At the foundation of our teaching is a commitment to enhancing and promoting our school values; Teamwork, Respect, Enthusiasm and Excellence.

Implementation

Our whole curriculum aims to enable all children, regardless of background, ability, additional needs, and to flourish and grow, reaching their full potential. We teach the National Curriculum, supported by a clear skills and knowledge progression. This ensures that skills and knowledge are built on and sequenced appropriately to maximise learning for all children. 1decision, mapped to the PSHE Association’s Programme of Study, supports children in developing the skills needed to manage difference influences and pressures, as a part of their personal development.
