International School Award

St Mary Bourne Primary School has successfully met the criteria for Reaccreditation for the British Council's prestigious International School Award in recognition of all our hard work in developing our global curriculum. The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in embedding an international education and awareness within their school.

At St Mary Bourne Primary School we work in close partnership with schools in Uganda and France. We have regular contact with our French friends including sending cards and letters. We annually celebrate European Day of Languages where children have the opportunity to learn about the language and culture of different countries.

"Congratulations, your Impact statement was a pleasure to read. It adds a much more detailed and richer picture of how your school is working with your local and the international community."

We are very proud of our Reaccreditation as it recognises the school's international links and creative ways that the school encourages children to improve their language skills and  learn about different countries and their cultures.

The international School Award encourages and supports schools to develop:

  • An international ethos embedded throughout the school
  • Involvement in the wider community
  • A whole school approach to international work and collaborative curriculum-based work with international partner schools
  • On-going yearly international activities
